Commonwealth Games: India at Fifth Place in Medal Tally

After a rousing start on Day 1 of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, India are hoping to add to their medal tally. Catch the highlights of CWG till now.

India won a gold, a silver and a bronze on Day 2 to take their medal tally to 10 Commonwealth Games 2014.

  • Malaika Goel Adds Silver Lining

16-year-old Malaika Goel from Amritsar won the silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol category. In a closely-fought contest, she (197.1 points) lost to Singapore’s Shun Xie Teo (198.6) by a slender margin. This is India’s eighth medal in the Commonwealth Games and the first in 2014 CWG.

  • Santoshi Matsa Bronze

A bronze medal was added to India’s tally by Santoshi Matsa in the 53 kg weightlifting category.

  • Abhinav Bindra Shoots Gold

Abhinav Bindra then won a 4th CWG gold by winning the 10m Air Rifle competition.

India added seven medals on Day 3: 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze

  • India’s Rajwinder Kaur beats EA Ratugi of Kenya to win bronze in Judo women’s +78kg event
  • Indian lifter Omkar Otari wins 69kg bronze
  • Rahi Sarnobat wins gold, Anisa Sayyed silver in 25m pistol
  • Prakash Nanjappa wins silver in 10m Air Pistol final. He finished with 198.2 points
  • Apurvi Chandela wins gold, Ayonika Paul bags silver in Women’s 10m Air Rifle

India added five more medals to their tally on Day 4

  • India’s Satish Sivalingam and Ravi Katulu win weightlifting gold and silver in 77kg category.
  • Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh wins silver in the women’s Double Trap event
  • India’s Punam Yadav lifts 202kgs to win bronze in women’s 63kg weightlifting event.
  • India’s Asab Mohd wins the Bronze in Men’s double trap shooting event.

Gold – 2

  • K Sanjita Chanu – Women’s weightlifting 48 kg category (Total lift – 173 kgs, 77+96)
  • Sukhen Dey – Men’s weightlifting 56 kg category (Total lift – 248 kg, 109+139)

Silver – 3

  • S Mirabai Chanu – Women’s weightlifting 48 kg category (Total lift – 170 kg, 75+95)
  • Navjot Chana – Men’s judo 60 kg (lost to Ashley McKenzie of England on penalty points (shido) in the final)
  • Shushila Likmabam – Women’s judo 48 kg (lost to Kimberly Renicks of Scotland in the final)

Bronze- 2

  • Kalpana Thoudam – Women’s judo 52 kg (beat Christianne Legentil of Mauritius. Bronze for Thoudam for conceding lesser penalty points)
  • Ganesh Mali – Men’s weightlifting 56 kg (Total lift 244 kg, 111+133)
